Geography

Welcome to our Geography page! Here at Chesterfield, we believe that understanding the world around us is one of the most exciting adventures children can embark on.

Our Geography curriculum aims to ignite curiosity about diverse places, people, resources, and natural and human environments. We encourage our pupils to ask questions, explore connections, and develop a deeper understanding of both their local area and the wider world.

Through engaging lessons, our children learn about:

  • Locational knowledge: Identifying countries, continents, oceans, and key physical and human features.
  • Place knowledge: Investigating different places, understanding their characteristics, and comparing them.
  • Human and physical geography: Exploring how physical processes shape the Earth (like rivers and mountains) and how human activities impact environments (like settlements and land use).
  • Geographical skills and fieldwork: Learning to read maps, use globes, interpret aerial photographs, and conduct local fieldwork to observe and record geographical features firsthand.

We aim to foster a sense of wonder and a global perspective in our young geographers, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make sense of our complex and ever-changing planet.
