PSHE and RHSE

PSHE

Welcome to our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) page. At Chesterfield, we believe that nurturing well-rounded individuals is just as important as academic success. Our PSHE curriculum is designed to equip our pupils with the essential knowledge, understanding, and skills to lead confident, healthy, and independent lives, both now and in the future.

PSHE is about helping children to understand themselves and others, manage their feelings, build positive relationships, and become responsible citizens. Through engaging and age-appropriate lessons, we explore a wide range of topics, including:

  • Health and Wellbeing: Promoting physical and mental health, healthy eating, and understanding emotions.
  • Relationships: Developing positive friendships, understanding family structures, and showing respect for others.
  • Living in the Wider World: Learning about rights and responsibilities, community, diversity, and basic financial literacy.
  • Safety: Understanding personal safety, online safety, and how to get help when needed.

Our aim is to empower our children to make informed choices, contribute positively to their community, and develop the resilience and self-awareness needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Relationships, Health and Sex Education

At Chesterfield, we deliver a high-quality Relationships and Health Education (RHE) curriculum that supports our pupils' well-being, personal safety and social development.

As part of the Connect Education Trust, our curriculum is fully aligned with the Connect Relationships Sex and Education Policy - please see below. Our lessons are age-appropriate, inclusive and designed to foster respect for all individuals and families.

What We Cover

Our RHSE curriculum focuses on two main areas:

  • Relationships Education: Pupils learn about healthy families, caring friendships, respect, online safety, and personal boundaries (including using correct names for body parts to support safeguarding).

  • Health Education: Pupils learn about physical and mental well-being, healthy eating, basic first aid, and the physical and emotional changes of puberty.

Our Approach to Sex Education

At primary level, statutory elements of sex education are delivered strictly through the compulsory National Curriculum for Science. This ensures that human lifecycle changes, puberty, and biological reproduction are taught factually and in a sensitive, scientific context.
